Eat in moderation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 15px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>For the shortbread<\/em><\/p>\n<p>250 g (9 oz) plain flour<\/p>\n<p>175 g (6 oz) butter or margarine<\/p>\n<p>75 g (2\u00bd oz) caster sugar (or ordinary sugar)<\/p>\n<p><em>For the caramel<\/em><\/p>\n<p>400 g (14 oz) tin of condensed milk<\/p>\n<p>150 g (5 oz) butter or margarine<\/p>\n<p>150 g (5 oz) brown or white sugar<\/p>\n<p><em>For the chocolate topping<\/em><\/p>\n<p>200 g (7 oz) milk or plain chocolate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 15px; color: #000000;\"><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">1<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Prepare the shortbread base by mixing the flour and sugar in a bowl, then rubbing in the butter to produce a smooth paste-like dough.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">2<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Press the dough into an 8\u2033x8\u2033 (20cmx20cm) baking tin, or a Swiss Roll tin and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">3<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Prick the dough with a fork and bake at 180\u00b0C for 20 minutes. Leave to cool in the tin.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">4<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Prepare the caramel by melting the butter gently in a pan. Add the sugar and stir until a \u201csludge\u201d is formed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">5<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Remove from the heat and stir in the condensed milk. Bring back to the boil and simmer gently with constant stirring for 8-10 minutes.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">6<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Pour the hot caramel onto the shortbread base, spread it out evenly then leave to cool completely.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"31\">7<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"607\">Melt the chocolate in a glass bowl over a pan or boiling water. Pour onto the caramel and spread evenly.
